Over sampling is not up-sampling as far as I am aware? correct me if I'm wrong?

Statman, are you able to play, DSD on your PC -> DAC? synchronous- upsampling, for example like the PCM1704 fed by a DF1704 or PMD100. Other people with mixed results may well have compared to DAC that have existing Have you got this configured? The DPLL settings also affect sound, especially with highĪll that is simple on the surface is not quite so when you look a bit deeper. Then there is the separate issue of Sabre's internal DPLL (jitter reduction) settings. It may be that Sabre's internal ASRC works better when it is fed a higher IP sample rate

All IP data is re sampled and re synchronized to a separate clock. Statman - your DAC will internally upsample 44.1 to > 384k anyway. stupid question but are you using a 300+ Khz capable interface and dac? The player should show a 352Khz output on screen, otherwise your not really upsampling. Nah your doing something wrong- even well recorded mp3 sounds a lot better when upsampled to 300+. I think there are going to be a lot of obsolete 192Khz capable dacs around very soon. I wouldn't like to say one is better than the other- they are different and both sound very good at these high sample rates.

Being able to choose 2 or 4 times upsampling seems to be important, both PureMusic and Audirvana Plus automatically upsample to the highest correct sampling rate for chosen files. Not all players seem to have the same upsampling ability- many only manage to 192Khz (JRiver) and while I sometimes struggle to hear the difference between different players their upsampling abilities are much more discernable.

And it's pretty cool to be utilising iTunes at 352.8Khz! It works very well, no bugs, and if you can be bothered to convert to AIFF or ALAC the new beta version works with iTunes integration, which means being lazy and controlling playback with an iPad from seating position. I've been using PureMusic to upsample and have just spent some time using Audirvana Plus to upsample to 352.8 and 384Khz. It is a big improvement over 176,192Khz imo and I look forward to 768Khz upsampling, but that will be a few years away maybe. I continue to be impressed with the results obtained by upsampling 44.1 to 352.8Khz and 48 to 384Khz.
